Organize your supplies
Start by measuring 1 1/2 tablespoons of the angel food cake mix. It is important to make sure that it is angel food mix, since this is what makes the cake rise. Pour it into the mug.
I choose to store my mix in the bag it comes in. To keep it fresh, I tie it with a rubber band. Then I put the bag back in the box.
Measure out 1 1/2 tablespoons of the second flavor. It can be anything you want! Lemon is very light and refreshing.
Now, measure the 2 tablespoons of water. The temperature does not affect the results.
Take the spoon and stir the ingredients. Make sure all of the lumps and dry areas are out. It helps to scrape the bottom and sides a little.
When you are finished stirring, the batter should be very fluffy and smooth.
The time needed to microwave the batter varies between microwaves, anywhere from 40 seconds to a full minute. It also depends on how moist you prefer your cake. I microwave mine at 45 seconds.
Wow! How did that happen? The mug may be hot when you remove it from the microwave, so be cautious.
You can be creative with what you add to your cake! Fruit, nuts, frosting, powdered sugar, you name it. Here, I made a butter pecan cake with cinnamon, granola, and a little bit of whipped cream.
